ACUPUNCTURE

Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back nearly two thousand years. It has a very positive model of good health and function, and looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance.

The overall aim of acupuncture treatment, then, is to restore the body’s equilibrium. What makes this system so uniquely suited to modern life is that physical, emotional and mental are seen as interdependent, and reflect what many people perceive as the connection between the different aspects their lives.

Traditional acupuncture believes that the underlying principle of treatment is that illness and pain occur when the body’s qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely. There can be many reasons for this; emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection or injury, are among the most common. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, a traditional acupuncturist seeks to re-establish the free flow of qi to restore balance and trigger the body’s natural healing response.

Studies have demonstrated Acupuncture’s effectiveness in the management of conditions such as lower back pain, pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee, and the treatment of vomiting and nausea. Evidence presented by the British Acupuncture Council supports the efficiency of acupuncture on many conditions including infertility, menopausal complaints, endometriosis, migraines and many others.

A qualified Acupuncturist, might use other tools during a treatment, such as Moxibustion, guasha or cupping.

Therapies Offered. Moxa

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy using moxa.

The word moxa come from Japonese Mogusa (mugwort) blended with combustion (burning), hence literally “burning of mugwort”.

Moxa will be used to tonity Qi which is deficient. It has a warming effect and will relax muscle pains.

The practitioner will either use indirect moxa with a moxa stick or moxa on needles or use moxa directly on the skin by rolling small cones and burning them.

Due to some patients having respiratory problem, Carole will always use smokeless moxa.

A heat lamp can also be used to warm larger area of the body.

REIKI

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us.

Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (1865 – 1926).
There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.

Reiki is a method of natural healing that treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit.

It is a technique that promotes healing and also reduces stress and induces relaxation. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us.

The Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit to channel the “life energy” from the universe to the patient.

The Reiki energy flows to the areas of need, supercharging the body's natural healing mechanism.
Reiki also produces other beneficial effects that include pain relief, relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Acute injuries can be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness takes longer. In some cases such as terminal illness, there is not enough time for the progress of the disease to be reversed. However, in such cases there is usually great benefit and enhancement of the quality of life giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining.
